I am a new media artist that works in multiple forms. While my focus is in photography and videography, I am comfortable with and skilled at several forms of art, from traditional fine art media such as painting and drawing to digital media and multimedia such as illustration, logo design, and composition. Much of my artistic and design work is a blend of traditional and digital media. I am also a musician, poet, and author, and a firm believer that art is art, regardless of the form the expression takes. I originally started taking photos as a means of building a stock library I could use for reference in digital and traditional drawing, painting, and illustration, but quickly found that I loved the idea of "painting with light," and it's since become my primary form of artistic exploration and expression.
I was born in North Dakota, but grew up traveling a lot. My father, a Chicago native, served 20 years on active duty in the United States Air Force, which meant I moved around a lot. It also meant that I spent nearly 9 years living in Europe--Belgium, England, and The Netherlands, specifically. I got to see many countries and cultures during that time, and my exposure to "The Old World" fostered a love of the Middle Ages, especially the Old Norse and Vikings.
I'm currently residing in the rural Midwest (Indiana) and am pretty happy here, but I'm always looking to the horizon for the next adventure. I tend to jump at chances for extended roadtrips, just because I have a wanderlust that drives me to get out and see new things and new places. When I'm home, I can usually be found on my porch with a cigar and glass of bourbon or cold beer in the summer, or in front of my fireplace in the winter--if I'm not at my drawing desk or on my computer working on a project. Living in rural America has afforded my family and I the opportunity to begin exploring homesteading as a means of sustainability, starting with a modest garden.
I've been a member of the Society for Creative Anachronism for just over 20 years, am one of the founding members of the band Salem's Childe with whom I have gotten to play gigs ranging from basements to arenas, am a Freemason, have worked as a corrections officer, and am a graduate of Indiana University Kokomo with a Bachelor of Science in New Media Communication. I write a lot of poetry (most of which can be found at my WordPress page), have self-published a novella, and I was published in 2015 in the Tor Books anthology, "Midian Unmade: Tales of Clive Barker's Nightbreed", among a couple other smaller publishing projects.
